Uniqlo: Reclaiming the Court

Undergraduate Project, 2023

National University of Singapore

For this conceptual collection developed during his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin, Lē reimagined Uniqlo’s tennis line through a contemporary lens—one that prioritizes cultural relevance, fluid movement, and democratic design. The project investigates how modern sportswear can retain technical performance while speaking to a new generation of athletes and creators.

Inspired by Uniqlo’s minimalist philosophy and its ongoing presence in the global tennis arena, Lē’s designs combine function-driven tailoring with elevated essentials. Emphasis was placed on breathability, ergonomic paneling, and unrestricted range of motion—ensuring pieces perform on and off the court. Subtle color blocking and modular layering evoke a sense of understated sophistication while remaining grounded in utility.

With an ethos centered on accessibility and adaptability, Reclaiming the Court proposes a future-forward take on tennis apparel—one that invites broader participation and challenges outdated norms of class and exclusivity in sport. Through this study, Lē positions fashion not just as a medium for athletic performance, but as a statement of inclusion and ease.
